1.02: Ironman/Hardcore Ironman Restrictions: What you should know.

Before you go rushing in you must understand a few things. This is very simple to understand.

DO NOT DIE. That part is obvious.

When you make the account you can have your title either as;

For male characters:-

  • Ironman [charactername]
  • [charactername] the Ironman
  • Hardcore Ironman [charactername]
  • [charactername] the Hardcore Ironman

Or for female characters:-

  • Ironwoman [charactername]
  • [charactername] the Ironwoman
  • Hardcore Ironwoman [charactername]
  • [charactername] the Hardcore Ironwoman

These titles are exclusive to Ironman/Hardcore Ironman accounts. Also these modes have their own seperate and unique highscore tables. And a broadcast message goes out when that character dies with a skill total of 750+ with the character name, skill total and what/who they died to.

Here is a list of the mechanics of these modes.

Hardcore Ironman Mode

Death in Hardcore Ironman mode is permanent. If you die and you do not have any lives left, then you will no longer be able to play. You’ll still be able to enter the lobby to chat to friends (and show off how far you got) but playing will not be possible as your character is dead. You can use the account to play Old School RuneScape if you like, however.
Gravestones are not enabled in Hardcore Ironman mode. If you die and have an ‘extra life’ to save you, your gravestone won’t appear. This means that any items you had on you are not protected, so you’ll need to get back to them quickly if you want to keep them.
You can buy two extra lives (Divine Coins) from Mr Ex when you reach a skill total of 1000+ and 1600+. These extra lives will cost you 100,000 coins and 10,000,000 coins respectively. These lives will alert the gods to your presence and they will bring you back to life should you die. Also if you have purchased a Jar of Divine Light, dying with this in your bank or inventory will automatically bring you back to life as an Ironman.
Although death in Hardcore Ironman mode is permanent, there are some exceptions (such as Dungeoneering). “Safe deaths” are still allowed, meaning that any activities where you are not usually given a gravestone upon death work in the same way they normally do – you will not die permanently.

  • Converting to an Ironman Account

If you are playing a Hardcore Ironman account but the challenge is too tough, you can convert to a normal Ironman account and preserve your account progress. To do this speak to Mr Ex in Edgeville. He’ll sell you a jar of divine light for 100,000 coins.
Opening the jar will convert your account from a Hardcore Ironman account to an Ironman account.
This is a permanent choice, and cannot be reversed. Only open the jar if you are sure that you no longer wish to play in Hardcore mode.

  • Converting to a Normal Account

If at any point you decide that these modes are too tough but you’d like to preserve your account progress, you can always speak to Mr Ex. He’ll sell you a book of diplomacy for 50,000 coins.
Reading the book is going to effectively teach your character how to interact with others, and so will remove your Ironman status and return your access to the restricted game features.
This is a permanent choice, and cannot be reversed. Only read the book if you are sure that you no longer wish to play in Ironman or Hardcore Ironman mode.
